Hip Q&A with Jenna Ellis, PT

SHARE

When we launched our Hip Pain Relief Program,  we asked our community members to send in any questions they had about their hips.  Below you’ll find the questions we received along with video responses from our resident physical therapist, Jenna Ellis:

Questions:

I have tight hips/glutes and a lot of stretches that help aren’t very accessible for me because of my knee injuries. I’m wondering if there’s a way to use Primal 7 to approximate the kind of stretch I would get from a pigeon pose?”

“How can we relieve tight hips when dealing with Piriformis and Lordosis in the lower back?”

Response:

Questions:

“I have hip arthritis with a scheduled hip replacement in September. Any exercise you think will help me prior to surgery?”

“Is this program [the Primal 7 Hip Pain Relief Program] suitable for those of us with artificial joints?”

“I have inflammatory arthritis and it affects my hips and shoulders a lot. Any recommended gentile exercises for hips to try and get moving again?”

Response:

Question:

“What can I do to help loosen the tightness in my hips? I feel like I can barely move normally anymore.”

Response:

Question:

“One of my hips is higher than the other, which can cause SI joint pain at times. Any tips to get more aligned?”

Response:

Concern:

“Persistent pain in left hip, coming in straight from the outer hip into the hip joint. Crazy tight IT bands on both legs. Less mobility on the left side than right. Pain and tingling in my left foot.”

Response:

Question:

Right hip pain and weakness, long term..it's painful to sleep on that side and I'm a ‘that side’ sleeper so it affects my ability to rest as well. I've been told bursitis or tendonitis. I've done the regular PT exercises and ice/heat. It does get a little better at times but flares up when I work out with any regularity. My knee on that side is now also painful when I walk downstairs. Any suggestions?”

Response:

We hope Jenna’s video responses will help not only the people who wrote in with questions but also others who are out there dealing with similar circumstances. If you have a question that wasn’t covered in the videos above or in our hip blog post, feel free to ask us in the comment section below.
